A board certified, clinical and research dermatologist, Dr. Graf is also Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, where she has been recognized for excellence in education with the 2011 Mount Sinai Medical Center Teacher of the Year Award.
Dr. Graf’s understanding that truly beautiful skin must occur from the inside out, and that balancing internal alkalinity (pH balance) is the key to optimal health, vitality and beautiful, glowing skin, led her to write her best-selling book, Stop Aging, Start Living (Crown, Fall 2007), which shows readers simple ways to achieve alkalinity through her revolutionary two-week pH-balancing diet.
Prior to completing her Residency in Dermatology at the New York University Medical Center, Dr. Graf earned her medical degree from the State University of New York -School of Medicine at Buffalo. Committed to research and the science of natural ingredients and new ingredient technologies from an early point in her career, Dr. Graf was a research fellow and protégé of George Martin, Ph.D., lab chief and one of the most highly respected scientists in the world, at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
While at NIH, where her colleagues referred to her as “Doctor Peptide” based on her groundbreaking research on peptides, Dr. Graf received an award for Outstanding Achievement from the National Institutes of Health, in addition to obtaining a NIH patent for her research on peptides in 1987. Dr. Graf is also noted for discovering a specific peptide responsible for cell attachment, which was able to inhibit and block melanoma metastases in the lungs of mice.
Recognizing the tremendous need for proven, effective, dermatology-strength skin care available without a prescription, Dr. Graf declared war on aging skin by creating her own peptide-driven anti-aging skin care line, combining the highest levels of active ingredients with the most effective delivery systems for the highest level of performance.
Today, Dr. Graf continues to research new active ingredients, as well as plant-derived enzymes and peptides for use in anti-aging products and treatments. Published in prestigious journals such as Cell, Science, the Journal of Cell Biology and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Dr. Graf also wrote the chapter on “Anti-aging Skin Care Ingredient Technologies,” which explains the molecular changes at the cellular level and the impact of nutrients on physiological processes, for the dermatology textbook Cosmetic Dermatology.
Dr. Graf is highly regarded as an expert resource and has been quoted in many national beauty, health and fitness magazines. Dr. Graf has also been a frequent guest on radio and television shows such as “The Dr. Oz Show”, “The CBS Early Show,” “Fox and Friends,” “Good Morning, America,” “The View” and “The Thread” on shine.yahoo.com, and appears regularly on shopping channels HSN and the UK’s Ideal World with her successful line of dermatology-strength skin care.
Recognized as a leader in the field of skin care and cosmetic injectables, Dr. Graf lectures nationally and internationally to both plastic surgeons and dermatologists, which includes training them in the use of cosmetic injectables, including Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm and Radiesse, as well as Botox and Dysport.
Dr. Graf serves as an independent consultant and advisory board member for a number of cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies including RXi Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Neutrogena, Johnson & Johnson, RoC, Allergan, Aveeno, Merz/Bioform and Medicis. She performed some of the earliest studies on soy technology used in the Aveeno product line and participated in its successful market launch. Dr. Graf also serves on the educational faculty of Allergan, Medicis and Merz, where she lectures and teaches other aesthetic physicians how to inject Botox and Restylane, and serves on the editorial board of Modern Aesthetics.
A member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and Society of Investigative Dermatology, Dr. Graf has been in private practice since 1990 in Great Neck,New York.
