Thanksgiving Apple Recipe

Warm Slice Apples

This sweet treat is completely pH-balanced. You have nothing to feel guilty about! It’s great with low-fat ice cream or frozen yogurt, or as a topping to a slice of angel food cake.

8 apples, peeled, cored and sliced into eighths
1/4 cup 100% apple or cranberry juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 stick cinnamon, broken into pieces
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon cardamom
1 tablespon vanilla
1/4 cup maple syrup

Place apple slices in a large pot. Add cranberry juice and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent the apples from sticking or burning. As the apples begin to release their own juices, bring to a slight boil. Add ground cinnamon, cinnamon stick, ginger, cardamom, vanilla and maple syrup. Stir mixture until the apples are evenly coated. Cover and cook at a simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft and break easily with a fork.

Almond Apple Slice: Add toasted slice almonds just before serving for extra crunch and alkalinizing nutrition.
Raisin or Cranberry Apple Slices: Add 1/2 cup raisins or cranberries to the mixture while cooking.
